Follow-Up Ministry

Every soul saved by Jesus Christ matters to Him hence must be well maintained. Paul charges the Shepherds in the church to show love and care for the members. “Therefore, take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood”, Acts 20:28 (KJV bible). It is undeniable that winning the heart of a new believer requires some effort, time, and the individual's free will to follow Jesus. Once the new believer gives final consent to follow God’s step, such a person becomes our cherished member. The church should develop a good rapport with every believer and devote a department within the ministry to managing the new converts and the existing believers.

The church should equip the saved ones with the Word of God and guide the new converts on how to self-study the bible for spiritual growth because the bible is the only powerful book we have. As indicated in Psalm 119:105, God's Word is a light to our path: “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” When managed well, a new convert can inform friends, families, or colleagues about the benefits of living for Jesus Christ. Remember, through one soul, we can win another person; that is, the members become ambassadors for Jesus Christ.

Strategies for the retention of new believers and existing believers are not exhaustive, so you are urged to explore more opportunities. The plans are elaborated below:

How to Connect

“Therefore, take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood”Acts 20:28 (KJV bible)

Dedicated Phone

The church needs to have a dedicated phone or phones depending on the size of the church to keep the contact numbers of everyone, just as individually, we save contact numbers of friends, families, and colleagues on our personal phones for easy identification.

Personal and Cordial Relationship

When the church develops a good relationship with members, it enhances unity among the members and the church. Being in one accord and mind is very important to the church, which is emphasized in Philippians 2:2: “Fulfill ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord of one mind” (KJV bible). Develop a personal relationship with new and existing church members by constantly communicating with the believers via phone (call or text); emails, and social media handles such as Facebook, Instagram, X.com, WhatsApp, and any other medium you have available. There should be frequent communication, either weekly or biweekly. For instance, through effective communication, the church may realize that some of the members may be either sick, have depression, are unhappy, have lost a loved one, or just need some words of encouragement to move on in life. James, in his writings, commanded us to call anyone who is sick- “Is any sick among you? Let him call for the church's elders; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord”, James 5:14 (KJV bible).

Volunteers and Visitation

The church members should volunteer to serve in the Follow-up department to support the Pastors, Apostles, Priests, Shepherds, or Bishops and among others. Note that this comes with a reward from God Almighty. The follow-up team should make every effort to know where their members reside. You can visit the members at home, or any nearby location as suggested and agreed upon, such as a restaurant, coffee shop, amusement park, or any convenient and safe place. As believers, we are one family hence, we need to demonstrate God’s love to everyone. The church should continually keep in touch with each member to know if everything is alright with them. The book of Romans says- “be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honor preferring one another” Romans 12:10 (KJV bible).

Documentation

Feedback in any conversation with new members or converts should be recorded electronically or manually and kept in binders or folders for easy reference and further follow-ups. The follow-up team should communicate comments or remarks from members to the Head of the Follow-up so that the Head of the team can take immediate action on important requests or needs from members. For instance, it could be a prayer request for a member who is sick or indisposed. James also mentioned in the bible, "Is any sick among you? Let him call for the church's elders; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord” James 5:14 (KJV bible).

Celebration of birthdays

The church can show its love through phone calls or text messages when a member celebrates his or her birthday. This makes the members feel a sense of belonging and this creates some bond between the fellow members and the church.

Other celebrations

The church should send cards or messages or customized or tailor-made souvenirs to members when they marry, have a newborn, christen a child, etc. These are little things that members value most, and they are inexpensive. We entreat the church to practicalize these strategies.
